She sets out from the castle’s highest archway, out the back of a turret onto a plateau carved out of the remaining spire.the last plateau before the top. She’s eager now, naive and curious, what she once was before she took to the sky’s to escape what was chasing her, like so many of us have. Only sinners in the skies, they used to say. She makes camp and sets off at the first clean light. The cracked steps catch her feet, tripping her up when they can. The mountain peels away from around her, until there’s just the steps, the peak, and what sat at the very top on the spire. There’s no plateau with a flag, no. Just stone steps leading up the biggest egg you’ve ever seen. Looks like its been carved out of marble, it sits at the summit, the crown jewel of this rotten place. It’s an egg no man or woman could crack. And there’s only one thing creature out of the stories that lays such a massive egg. Thrice as tall as a grown man, the Dreamer’s egg has been the mountain’ speak since the first crashed onto the mountain’s rocks. A legend sprang up around it, legend faded into myth, and that eroded more until all that the folk of the spire had was a story. When the shell cracked, and the Dreamer roused from his sleep, the storms would blow out to sky. The spire’s cage of storms would unlock, and everyone would be free to lead, sail back to their homes. Of course, that was before. Now there aren’t any left to take to the skies. Just a Girl climbing those old steps and finally lifting her head to set her eyes on the egg. And wait does she find? A story she’d never heard, a prophecy no one whispered, come true. Cracks spider across the egg, and at the bottom, just where the steps meet the shell, there’s a hole. It was cracked open when It happened. A dim hole leading into the dark, leading to an end, to the heart of the storms. A hole leading to the Dreamer. Of course the Girl walks in.
